KFP Architects specializes in Educational Building Programs and has performed services on behalf of its clients on over 100 schools throughout New England in both the public and private sectors. Project assignments have varied from site and building needs assessment studies to the master planning of entire campus facilities. The firm has designed instructional and recreational spaces at all learning levels from Early Learning Centers, K-12 Primary and Secondary Schools, to College University projects, Dormitories, Student Education Buildings and Special Needs facilities.

Educational Facility projects have consisted of New Construction, Building Additions, Comprehensive Renovations, Modernization, Rehabilitation and Historic Preservation.

Our School Building Program services are extensive & include:

  • Enrollment Projections & Educational Programming- Research and identification of demographic statistical data for the purpose's of the development of enrollment projections and Educational Space programming and specifications.
  • Site Evaluations- Review of current or proposed sites to be acquired for new or expanded facilities. Review of Zoning Regulations & Environmental Issues relative to Permitting. Soil Analysis for suitability of septic systems & building structures.
  • Building Needs Assessments- Review of existing facilities for feasibility of expansion and compliance with State Educational Standards and building codes including handicap accessibility; review of exterior envelope – Roof, Walls, Windows, Foundations; Interior Building Components and Systems – Finishes; Electrical/ Mechanical/Plumbing and Fire Protection Systems.
  • Conceptual Design & Presentations- Development of Design Drawings & Graphics for presentation to Building & School Committees. Colored Presentation Drawings and Scale Models. Presentations to state and local authorities having jurisdiction over the project. Promotional materials and publicity campaigns to educate, inform, and gain community support and endorsement.
  • Project Budgeting- Develop project costs for initial project phase and any subsequent long-term phases, including all aspects of costs associated with the school building program - Site and Building construction costs and Soft costs such as Surveys, Architectural and Engineering costs, Interim Financing, School Furnishings and Equipment.
  • Construction Documents- Preparation of Plans & Specifications identifying the work of all trades of the construction project.
  • Bid/Negotiation- Assist in the process of obtaining construction pricing and contractor selection. Review references and prepare construction contract.
  • Construction Phase- Implementation of your plan to the final completion of your construction project. We can work with your construction resources or ours (through our affiliated company - KFP Construction Management).
  • Furnishings & Equipment- Assist in the selection & procurement of school furnishings, kitchen equipment, etc.
